about
Miriam Dwinell founded Churn Butter Design in 1999. She has worked with many Fortune 500 companies including Sony, Mattel, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Chevrolet, SheaMoisture and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf building high impact creative for nearly 20 years. Originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Miriam has a passion for folk art and all things Pennsylvania Dutch.
“Design is at its best when you can reach a certain audience and engage them in a experience that is not only visually memorable, but also transformative. The energy created by choosing the right colors, fonts and visuals is so powerful. I find solving the creative puzzle incredibly satisfying.”

The idea of Churn Butter Design originated from a joke at a studio where I worked in South Florida. As we all became friends, my co-workers thought it was hilarious that I was an export from Penn Dutch country.

I must admit it was a bit of a culture shock to move away from the ‘homeland’. I thought I was pretty well-adjusted but the other designers couldn’t help speculating that a Pennsylvania girl, fresh off the buggy, must churn butter and raise barns on the weekends!

Although it was surely not the case, we had a great many laughs about the whole thing…and so Churn Butter Design came to be!
